Ranging
from a Bactrian Weight in the form of a standing bull dating
back to the late 3rd or early 2nd millennium BC, to a magnificent
Persian Medallion carpet which was woven at the turn of the
17th century AD, the objects selected here are amongst the
finest pieces in the Miho Museum.
The
South Wing presents treasures from ancient Egypt, West Asia,
Greece, Rome, South Asia, China, and Islam. These artifacts
include vessels, figurines, jewelry, and textiles that illuminate
fascinating aspects of the rituals, court life, technology,
and cultural exchanges of ancient societies. Many galleries
are designed around specific objects such as the South Asian
Gallery that evokes the dome where the Gandhara Buddha was
once enshrined.
