ART INTRODUCTION

..Art and beauty have the power to nourish and refine the soul. Not only do they bring pleasure
but they can profoundly move the heart and mind. When touched by beauty we place a higher value on life and on all creation: The ugliness of criminality and destructive behavior are seen for what they are and lose their appeal. Art touches that part of us that exists above the struggle for survival and beyond the sphere of reason. If allowed, it can make us wise to the ways of the human spirit. It is for this reason that we encourage everyone to have art and beauty become part of their daily life.

Meishusama actively supported the arts and Shinji Shumeikai has assembled a large collection of antiquities and rare Japanese art objects. Art objects from our collection, known as the Shumei Family Collection, have had major exhibitions at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City (1996) and at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (1997). In November of 1997 this collection was permanently housed in the Miho Museum in Shiga, Japan.
