The Ohikari

“When I take a brush and write, the writing on the paper is vibrant with life. If this paper is folded and put around someone’s neck as an Ohikari, their feelings become radiant, and miracles start to happen.”—Meishusama (The Savior of the World)

An Ohikari is a pendant, incased in a silk pouch hung around the neck by a silk string or silver chain, on which is printed the Chinese character for Light, as rendered by Meishusama.

Because it embodies Divine Light, it enables one to give Jyorei. An Ohikari is always worn while giving Jyorei.

Wearing it reminds one that he or she is connected to God by spiritual bonds and special care is taken of the Ohikari. One’s relationship to an Ohikari has a special significance, as the way it is treated and its condition is a reflection of one’s spiritual life.

Receiving an Ohikari requires an initiation and donation. The donation covers the cost of materials, classes, an initiation ceremony, and an offering to the Shumei organization, all of which amounts to about $300. The decision to give Jyorei and be a member of Shumei requires serious consideration as it entails a commitment to live not only for oneself but to devote one’s life to helping others.
