Shumei's
heart resides in the Shigaraki Mountains north of Kyoto
in a place named Misono. "Misono" means "Sacred Garden"
and it reflects our founder Meishusama's vision of Heaven
on Earth. The site on which Misono stands has been considered
sacred since ancient times, when no less than five Shinto
shrines occupied the area. With the completion of Meishusama
Hall in 1983, Misono became Shumei's international headquarters
and spiritual center. The foremost architects, artists,
engineers, and craftsmen had a hand in creating this sanctuary
of beauty and spirituality. At Misono, nature, art, science,
and technology come together to form a prayer for peace,
prosperity, and beauty for humankind and the world.

"...to create Paradise on Earth...[where] people have
beauty in their hearts, a beauty in the spirit. Words and
deeds should embody this beauty. This is beauty at the individual
level. And when individual beauty spreads, social beauty
comes into being..."
Mokichi Okada
(Meishusama)
