The Ohikari is an object of exceptional spiritual energy that was developed by Shumei’s founder, Meishusama. It resembles a scapular in that it is covered by cloth and hangs on the chest by a string worn around the neck. Ohikaris are comprised of four elements, the most important being a parchment with a calligraphic image created by Meishusama imprinted on it. The image contained in the most common type of Ohikari bears the Chinese ideogram for "Light". The spiritual Light that this image emits is of such strength that anyone wearing his or her Ohikari has the power to alleviate human suffering through the practice of Jyorei. This innermost image is enclosed within an inner silk pouch, a plastic pouch with a protective card, and an outer silk pouch inscribed with the name of the person to whom the Ohikari was given.

Besides its healing powers, the Ohikari also protects the wearer from harm.
The source of its power is Divine and the affects of its use are always for the good.
